Experience Matters When Your Health Is on the Line

Most people approach health and fitness reactively.

One new study. One headline. One podcast. One treatment. One recommendation.

Suddenly, everyone is doing the latest thing.

But health and human performance aren't built on the loudest information of the moment. They require an understanding of the whole person.

After nearly 40 years of qualified experience preparing people for demanding health, fitness and endurance challenges, I've learned that there are no shortcuts to understanding how people respond to physical and psychological stress.

My background spans exercise physiology, nutrition, neuroscience, psychotherapy, psychology and sport science.

That means when we prepare someone for Kokoda, we don't simply ask:

“How far can you walk?”

We consider the whole picture — physical capacity, health, nutrition, recovery, mindset, stress, resilience and the individual's ability to adapt when things get difficult.

Because on the Kokoda Track, preparation isn't about following the latest trend.

It's about understanding the person standing in front of you.

And perhaps that's one reason why Our Spirit has built such a strong safety record over decades of taking people into one of the world's most demanding trekking environments.

Experience matters. Qualifications matter. But knowing how to bring them together matters most.
